Steel Buildings Texas, TX

Texas runs eight hundred miles from the Panhandle to the Gulf, and the same building does not suit both ends of it. A steel building here gets specified to the county it lands in — roof style, gauge and anchoring all follow from the wind and snow figures your jurisdiction enforces. Delivery and installation are included in the price, and the office you reach is on I-27 south of Amarillo.

Trucks, tractors, RVs and hay. Texas keeps it under steel. Galvanized steel, delivered and installed anywhere in Texas. Gulf salt, Panhandle wind, West Texas hail. Steel takes all three.

Buildings

What Texas buys.

A spread across the building types Texas leads with. Delivery and installation are included, and the specification shifts with what your county requires.

One state, three weather problems

A building specified for Amarillo is the wrong building for Corpus Christi. Texas is wide enough to contain three distinct climates, and each one changes a different part of the order.

The Gulf Coast

Houston · Corpus Christi · Galveston · Beaumont

Salt air and eight humid months. Galvanized framing is the reason these buildings last near the water, and a vertical roof sends rain off the panels rather than letting it track along horizontal seams.

The Panhandle and North Texas

Amarillo · Lubbock · Wichita Falls

Snow load is real up here, and there is nothing between you and the wind. This is certification country: the figures your county enforces decide the gauge and the anchoring, so we ask for the county before we quote.

West and Central Texas

El Paso · Midland · San Angelo · Abilene

Heat and hail, and hail is what ends cheap roofs. The vertical roof is the option designed for inclement weather; a lighter panel color is the cheapest thing you can do about the afternoon.

What actually moves a Texas price

A starting price is a starting point. These are the things that change it, and distance matters more here than almost anywhere — the state is wider than most countries.

01

How far you are from the manufacturer

We work with manufacturers across the country and quote from whichever one serves your area. Freight is a real line on a Texas order, and a Panhandle address and a Rio Grande Valley address are not the same haul.

02

Certification for your county

A certified building is engineered to the wind and snow figures your jurisdiction enforces, with the gauge, roof style and anchoring chosen to meet them. Where a county requires it, it is not optional, and it changes the price.

03

Roof style

Regular, A-frame horizontal and vertical, in ascending order of cost. Vertical is the one built for inclement weather, which is why most of Texas ends up there.

04

The slab is not ours

We do not do groundwork or foundation work. If your building needs a slab or piers, that is a local contractor and a separate cost — worth pricing before you order, not after.

Permits

Permits, county by county

Texas has 254 counties, and two questions decide almost everything: which one you are in, and whether the address sits inside a city. Settle those and the rest is paperwork.

  1. 01

    Inside city limits

Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin and Fort Worth each run their own permitting. Plan on filing, and plan on the city asking for an engineer-stamped drawing.

  2. 02

    Unincorporated county land

County authority over building codes in Texas is limited and uneven, so requirements vary widely from one county to the next. Setbacks and floodplain review are the two that catch people out.

  3. Either way, what we hand you

Engineer-stamped drawings for any jurisdiction that requires them. Confirm what your county asks for before you order, tell us what it is, and we will certify the building to it — with the cost of certification shown up front, not added later.

* Design wind speed and ground snow load are declared by each jurisdiction — the International Residential Code prints both blank for the local authority to fill in (Table R301.2).

Questions

Texas, specifically.

The five or six things people ask before they order, answered for this state rather than in general.

Building in Texas?

Give us the county and what the building is for, and you'll get a price that reflects both — not a number off a national list.
