Horse Barns & Stalls

A barn built around the horses — stalls, aisle, and air.

A horse barn isn't just an enclosed shed — it's a building laid out around three things: the stalls your horses live in, the aisle you work them in, and the airflow that keeps their lungs healthy. Get those right and everything else follows. The industry standard is a 12×12 stall (10×10 for ponies, 12×14 or larger for big breeds), a 12-foot center aisle so a horse and a person can pass and a truck can drive through, and a tack and feed room where the day's work happens.

The one thing that separates a good steel barn from a problem one is ventilation. Steel roofs sweat, horses add moisture and ammonia, and stale air is the most common cause of respiratory trouble in modern stables. So we build in the airflow — ridge vents, cupolas, and eave venting that pull warm, damp air up and out — and insulate the roof to stop condensation dripping on your horses. Clear-span steel means no posts in the middle of your aisle or stalls, and the whole barn is engineered to your county's wind and snow loads.

The horse-barn lineup

Horse barns, laid out for the herd.

Set the width for your aisle and stall count, the length for how many stalls, and the rooms you need — we engineer the clear span and frame it for ventilation. Every barn is built to spec.

Know your stall count and layout?

Tell us how many horses, center-aisle or shed-row, and whether you want a tack room and wash bay — a specialist will lay out the stalls, aisle, and venting for you.

The equestrian numbers

Spec it around the stall and the aisle.

Horse barns run on a handful of well-established dimensions. Get these right and the barn works for the horses and the people; guess at them and it fights you every day.

01
12×12 stalls

The industry-standard stall — room for a horse to turn and lie down. Ponies do fine in 10×10; big breeds and drafts want 12×14 or 12×16.

02
12-ft center aisle

Wide enough for a horse and handler to pass and a truck or tractor to drive through. 10 ft is the minimum; 14 ft is ideal.

03
Stalls by length

Every 12 ft of length adds another stall per side. A 36-ft-wide center-aisle barn runs one stall per side at each bay, plus the aisle between.

04
Tack & feed rooms

A dedicated room for saddles, blankets, and feed keeps the barn organized and the feed secure — plan the space in from the start.

05
Ventilation first

Ridge vents, cupolas, and eave venting move stale, damp air out. It's the #1 thing barns get wrong — and the #1 thing for horse health.

06
Wash & grooming bay

A concrete-floored bay with drainage for bathing and grooming, tucked at one end of the aisle.

Center-aisle vs shed-row

Two layouts — pick the one that fits your horses and lot.

Both house horses well; they just work differently. The right one depends on how many horses, your climate, and how much you want to work out of the weather.

Sizes & prices

How big is a horse barn?

A center-aisle horse barn needs about 36 feet of width — a 12-ft stall on each side plus a 12-ft aisle — and the length sets the stall count, one more stall per side for every 12 ft.

Match the footprint to your herd and rooms. Search or scroll the sizes below, hover any one for what it fits, the SKU, and the price.

Shed-row barns need less width since the stalls sit in a single line. A specialist will lay out stalls, aisle, tack room, and venting to your plan.

Delivery & installation, included

Engineered for horses, raised by our crew.

Our crew erects the clear-span barn on your prepared site and frames the stall, door, and vent openings you spec'd. Aisles and wash bays usually want a concrete floor; stalls are often dirt with mats, which is easier on legs. We build in the ridge and eave ventilation from the start — it's not an afterthought for a horse barn.

  • Anchors for concrete, asphalt, or ground — included
  • Certified builds: engineer-stamped for your county's wind & snow loads
  • 12- or 14-gauge galvanized steel — carries our 20-year rust warranty

We are building a barndominium and they delivered the shell on schedule. Our contractor said the framing was straighter than most stick-built shells he sees.

Loafing shed for the horses showed up exactly when they said it would. The crew leveled and anchored on uneven ground and didn't try to charge extra.
