Steel Buildings Michigan, MI
A Michigan boat spends more of the year put away than in the water, and what it is put away in decides how it looks in five years. That is the case for an enclosed building here rather than a cover — along with snow that comes off the lakes heavier than the inland figure suggests. Delivery and installation are included in the price, and the roof is certified to your county.

Boats put away for six months. Michigan does it in steel. Galvanized steel, delivered and installed across Michigan. Lake-effect snow off the water. Michigan steel carries it.
What Michigan buys.
A spread across the building types Michigan leads with. Delivery and installation are included, and the specification shifts with what your county requires.

The lakes decide how heavy the roof is
Michigan's snow is not evenly spread. Which side of the state you are on, and how far north, changes the roof figure — and the roof figure changes the building.
The west-side snowbelt
Lake Michigan puts extra snow on this side every winter, and it is the heaviest roof figure in the lower peninsula. A vertical or straight roof clears a load faster, and this is where the heavier gauge earns its cost.
Southeast Michigan
Dense, suburban and thoroughly permitted, with less snow than the west side but plenty of road salt. Enclosed garages and workshops on lots where the setback usually decides the footprint.
The north and the U.P.
The most severe winters in the state by a wide margin. Snow load governs everything up here — gauge, roof style, anchoring — and certification to the county's own figure is not a formality.
What moves a Michigan price
Winter drives two of these four, which tells you where the engineering money goes in this state.
Snow load, and where in the state
The biggest variable here. A snowbelt or northern county produces a materially heavier building than the same footprint outside Detroit, and that is engineering rather than markup. It is also why we ask for the county before quoting.
Open, or closed in
In Michigan this fork almost always ends in walls. A cover keeps snow off; an enclosed building keeps salt, damp and weather away from a boat or a coach for six months. It is the upgrade buyers here most often wish they had made at order time.
Height and door width
Boats on trailers fail on height, not length. Measure the tallest point — tower, windshield, radar arch — and the widest, then buy a door that clears both. A building you cannot get the boat into is an expensive shed.
The pad is not ours
We do not do groundwork or foundations. Michigan frost depth is real and the freeze-thaw cycle works on a pad every year — get it priced and prepared locally before the install is scheduled.
What Michigan puts away for winter
Boat storage leads this list, then garages and shops. Six types, in the order they come up here — start from what is going inside and how tall it is.
Still looking for the right building? Tell us the job.
Most people know what has to go inside long before they know which building that is. Tell us what it has to do, and we'll match it — from an open carport to a fully enclosed commercial span.
Permits, 83 counties and the townships
Michigan does more of its permitting at township level than most states, so the address matters more than the county map. Look yours up below.
- 01
Inside city limits
Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Lansing and Ann Arbor each run their own permitting. Expect a real review and expect the drawing to be stamped against the local snow figure.
- 02
Township and county land
Townships handle a great deal of it here, with the county behind them. Snow load is the figure to ask about first — in the snowbelt and up north it decides the building, not just the paperwork.
Either way, what we hand you
Engineer-stamped drawings for any jurisdiction that requires them. Confirm what your township or county asks for, tell us, and we certify the building to it with the cost of certification shown before you order.
Find the county you're building in.
Search a city or a county and we'll tell you which one you're in and who issues the permit there. No form, no email.

Where we deliver in Michigan.
This is the list we publish, not a boundary. A town on it is certainly covered; a town missing from it is a question rather than a no. Search for yours below, and if it is not here, one call settles it before you spend anything.
Michigan, specifically.
The five or six things people ask before they order, answered for this state rather than in general.
